New Partnership with Imperial College London -  Applied African SF

Date: 14 October 2024

We are delighted to announce a New Partnership with Imperial College London on Applied African Speculative Fiction.

Technology is transforming environments and people all over the world.

How do African writers imagine its impacts on the continent and beyond?

Who are the artists and filmmakers who are shaping the conversation about science and technology from within Africa or its global diaspora?

The ASFS has partnered with Imperial College London and in association with University of Nairobi and the International Black Speculative Fiction Writing Festival for a year-long education program including a series of seminars and workshops that will explore futures shaped by AI, automation, synthetic biology, surveillance capitalism, space exploration, nanotechnology and integration into the global industrial economy.

This program is funded by Imperial College London and hosted by its Centre for Environmental Policy alongside the Department of Agriculture at the University of Nairobi.

We are delighted to have been invited to be partners and our aim is to promote and showcase the works by members of the ASFS to a wide and new audience, and participate in a Call for Submissions to ASFS members to collaborate with students and academics. The program is currently being designed and details will be shared with all of you over the coming weeks and months for necessary permissions and how to get involved.

We have created a preliminary website for the program where you can sign up to receive notifications. Please note that the website is currently is being designed with a new visual identity and will be re-launched shortly: https://appliedafricansf.com/

In the meantime, if you ave any questions or ideas you want to share about this program please do not hesitate to contact us on info@africansfs.com.

We will be using this new opportunity to continue our promotional campaign of the Nommo Awards Winners 2024 and building out our ASFS membership, reach and support.
