Below are the Short List Nominees in each of the 4 categories and ALL respective nominees for the 2017 Nommo Awards:

Members are given the opportunity to read the following short listed novellas online.  If you are a member of the ASFS please fill in the Nommo Reader Request Form (with relevant conditions) and submit. If you are an approved member, we will send through access details.

NOVELLA SHORT LIST NOMINEES

BINTI

Nnedi Okorafor

Nnedi Okorafor is a Nigerian American writer of speculative fiction for both children and adults and a full professor at the University at Buffalo, New York. Her works include Who Fears Death, the Binti novella series, the Book of Phoenix, the Akata series and Lagoon.  She is the winner of Hugo, Nebula, Macmillan and World Fantasy Awards and her debut novel Zahrah the Windseeker won the prestigious Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature. THE FLYING MAN OF STONE

Dilman Dila

Dilman Dila is the author of a critically acclaimed collection of short stories, A Killing in the Sun. He has been listed in several prestigious prizes, including the BBC International Radio Playwriting Competition (2014), the Commonwealth Short Story Prize  (2013), and the Short Story Day Africa prize (2013, 2014). His short fiction have featured in several magazines and anthologies. His films include the masterpiece, What Happened in Room 13 (2007), which has attracted over five million views on Youtube, and The Felistas Fable (2013), which was nominated for Best First Feature at Africa Movie Academy Awards (2014), and which won four major awards at Uganda Film Festival (2014). Mame Bougouma Diene

Mame Bougouma Diene is a French-Senegalese American Program Officer in drug policy reform living in Brookyn New York, and the US/Francophone spokesperson for the African Speculative Fiction Society. He has a fondness for progressive metal, tattoos and policy analysis. He can be read here and there.

THE LAST PANTHEON

Tade Thompson and Nick Wood

Tade Thompson lives and works in the UK. He is Yoruba and has a background in medicine, psychiatry and social anthropology.

Nick Wood is a South African clinical psychologist, with over twenty short stories previously published in Interzone, Infinity Plus, PostScripts, Redstone Science Fiction, Fierce Family and AfroSF V1 and 2 (with Tade Thompson) amongst others. He has a YA speculative fiction book published in South Africa entitled ‘The stone chameleon’ as well as a debut novel ‘AZANIAN BRIDGES’ (NewCon Press: UK), currently shortlisted for a British Science Fiction Award for Best Novel (2016). Nick has completed an MA in Creative Writing (SF & Fantasy) through Middlesex University and is currently training clinical psychologists at the University of East London (UEL). TA O’REVA

Muthi Nhlema

Muthi Nhlema is a civil engineer by training, but a writer at heart. An avid of fan of all things time travel, TA O’REVA was Muthi’s first foray into science fiction and it won the 3rd prize at the Freeditorial Long Short Story Competition and an excerpt was longlisted for the 2015 Writivism Short Story Prize. His other short story ‘One Wit’ This Place’, a spec-fic about love in a time of climate change, was also featured in the Imagine Africa 500 anthology. He is married to his muse, who is far more talented than he is, and has an adorable son who drives him up the wall.

The long list consists of all titles in this category that were nominated by members of the ASFS.  Some of these works were nominated once, some just missed the shortlist.  The ASFS lists them in full to draw attention to all the works members felt worthy of consideration.
