How to Nominate and Vote for the Nommo Awards
Nommo Awards Eligibility
Works published between January 1, 2020 – December 31 2021 are eligible for the sixth annual Nommo Awards in 2022. Any work of speculative fiction (Novel, Novella, Short Story or Graphic Novel) by an African, published anywhere in the world is eligible for nomination.
The author of the work does NOT have to be a Member of the ASFS.
Only registered members of the African Speculative Fiction Society (ASFS) are eligible to nominate and vote for works. Members cannot nominate their own works. The 2022 Nommo Awards will be presented at WorldCon in November 2022.
Novel: Stories of 40,000 words or longer
Novella: Stories of between 17,500 and 40,000 words
Short Story: Stories of between 1 and 17,500 words
Graphic Novel: Stories that consist of both images and words of any length.
This is a speculative fiction award. All nominations must be fiction and they must have magic, science fiction, or some other fantasy element. Stories without a speculative element are not eligible.
Short story collections are not novels and are not eligible in any category – pick the best story and nominate it.
Memoirs, self help books, religious texts, histories or biographies may be good, but they are not eligible.
The Nomination Process
A work must be nominated by a member of the ASFS during the nomination period, which runs from December 16, 2021 – April 15, 2022. Please take the time during the open nomination period to compile your list of nominations and submit together (once only) using the form below. The five works in each category with the greatest number of nominations become the shortlist for the Nommo Award in that category.
Nominations for 2022 are now OPEN. If you are a member of the ASFS, please submit a nomination ballot for the Nommo Awards by following the steps below:
Open the email you have been sent by the ASFS.
Open the form.
Enter your email address, your name and acknowledge you have read the nomination rules.
There are 4 categories. In each category, please enter the name of the Author and the Title of the work you wish to nominate. You can nominate up to a maximum of 5 works in each category but this is not mandatory. You can choose to nominate only one work. You also do not need to nominate in all categories.
To proceed to the next category, please click NEXT at the bottom of the form.
When you have finished nominating in all 4 categories, select SUBMIT at the bottom of the form to send in your final nomination.
Once submitted, a nomination cannot be changed.
Nommo Awards Voting
Voting will open from April 16, 2022 to June 30, 2022, ASFS members will be able to vote for items on the shortlist for the Nommo Awards (presented in 2021). The work on the shortlist that receives the highest number of votes in each category will win the Nommo Award.
How to Vote
The voting form will be available at this LINK. All ASFS members will also receive an email containing detailed instructions on how to vote.
